Sex Education star Gillian Anderson has invested into Crux Football, the women’s football multi-club ownership group.

The former X Files actress will join a group of investors that own French team Montpellier and have a stake in Swedish side FC Rosengard with the organisation teasing Anderson’s involvement on Instagram.

Crux Football is a Europe-based multi-club ownership vehicle for women’s football, akin to the likes of Mercury 13 and the portfolio of Michele Kang.

Its organisation – founded by Bex Smith – features the former Brentford head of recruitment Ted Knutson as well as former US player Julie Foudy. Former Netflix figure Cindy Holland and ex-Visa marketing executive Adrian Farina are also involved alongside former Scotland international Jen Beattie.

A stake in Crux Football will join soft drink brand G Spot within Anderson’s investment portfolio.

Anderson newest investment

There is growing investment interest within women’s football, led by Kang and the likes of Reddit co-founder – and husband of Serena Williams – Alexis Ohanian.

Ohanian purchased a 10 per cent stake in Women’s Super League side Chelsea for £20m in 2025, valuing the club at £200m. He has since stated that he believes the London club could become the world’s first $1bn football team.

Former US players Abby Wambach, Ali Krieger and Leslie Osborne and US basketball player Sue Bird also count themselves as Crux Football investors.

Montpellier have twice won the French domestic league, in 2004 and 2005, while they have claimed three Coupe de France trophies – the last of which was won in 2009.

FC Rosengard, on the other hand, have won the domestic Damallsvenskan 14 times – including in 2021, 2022 and 2024 – and have won the cup five times.
