You’ll need to use the print and post form (IHT205) if the person died on or after 6 April 2011, and on or before 31 December 2021, and the estate is unlikely to pay Inheritance Tax.
If the person died on or before 5 April 2011, you’ll need to report an excepted estate for Inheritance Tax for deaths on or before 5 April 2011 (IHT205).
If the person died on or after 1 January 2022, you’ll need to check if you need to send full details of the estate.
You can check how to value an estate for Inheritance Tax and report its value.
You can complete the print and post form as part of the probate process if the:
- deceased’s estate is an ‘excepted estate’ (an estate that does not pay Inheritance Tax and meets other conditions)
- person that died was a permanent resident of England, Wales or Northern Ireland
Use the IHT206 notes to get help in filling the form in and find out where to send it.
